Business Development Manager

Business Development Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Business Development, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for growing a sales funnel for Spear Bio’s first product- NAB-Sure™. The Business Development Manager will drive demand, generate leads, convert them into opportunities, and close sales with customers. The person in this role will drive sales, support existing customers, and build recurring revenue into the future. The Business Development Manager will be expected to develop relationships with key customers and KOLs, understand and discuss their needs, and relay them with Spear Bio internal teams. Market focus will be academic and clinical research as well as pharmaceutical and vaccine development.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop target account lists in key target markets and reach out to generate leads
  • Convert leads into opportunities by understanding customer needs and readiness to purchase
  • Close sales and work with application team to ensure successful adoption
  • Manage customer accounts and understand their project needs for assays
  • Supports development of external collateral and marketing strategies
  • Develop own sales plan and forecast on a quarterly basis
  • Work closely with external partners and KOLs on relevant strategic engagements and projects
  • Represent Spear Bio in the field at relevant conferences, tradeshows, and academic presentations
  • Analyzes bioanalytical research industry dynamics, competitive landscape and identify opportunities for business expansion

Requirements

  • BS in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related. Relevant MS/PhD a plus.
  • 3-5 years’ experience sales, business development, or application support in academic, pharma, and/or clinical research accounts
  • Ability to travel (up to 25%)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, oral and written
  • Autonomous, able to make sound business decisions consistently
  • Strong work ethics, with self-starter mindset

Application Development Scientist

Application Development Scientist

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Application Development Scientist will be responsible for translating Spear Bio’s technology platform and applying it to customers and strategic partner applications. The role will have dual responsibilities being a member of the R&D team reporting to the Head of Application Development but also directly supporting the commercial team’s activities as directed by the Sr. Director of Business Development. As such, The Application Development Scientist will be expected to participate in product and work-flow development activities while also be expected to develop relationships with key customers and KOLs support their use of Spear Bio’s products and technology. The Application Development Scientist will be expected to be an expert on the product and how customers apply it.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops, plans, conducts and records results from complex experiments across product areas
  • Contributes ideas for new product development with a customer mind-set
  • Performs laboratory experiments following defined protocols and company procedures or innovates to develop new protocols for existing or new technologies.
  • Develop platform protocols and translate them to commercial documents
  • Own external technical documentation including IFUs, product data sheets, and application note production and editing process.
  • Support and enable the sales process and strategic partnering process by presenting to customers and strategic partners and educating them on our technology and platform.
  • Own customer success in setting up assay workflow and providing scientific and technical support
  • Work with external partners, customers, and KOLs to develop new data & application notes, as well as new workflows and assay solutions for customers.
  • Understand customer pain points and relay VOC back to the Marketing and Product Development teams.
  • Be a thought leader in the field, maintaining current knowledge on competitors and key applications and represent Spear Bio at conferences, tradeshows, and academic lectures

Requirements

  • PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology with extensive immunoassay experience
  • 3-5 years’ academic or industry experience on assay or molecular biology technology development, field applications and/or diagnostics lab test management.
  • In-depth knowledge in immunology, oncology or neurology is preferred

Research Associate

Research Associate

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a research assistant/associate level candidate who has a strong scientific background and desire to be at the forefront of research to join our R&D team. The Research Assistant/Associate will work under immediate supervision, and typically will report to a supervisor or manager. A BS degree or above and 1-2 years of experience in the field of immunoassays, molecular diagnostics or in a related area is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in laboratory analysis, quality control, or data management
  • Executes assay workflows with a focus on high-throughput, semi-automated platforms
  • Assists in optimizing methods for handling and processing various types of clinical samples for assay development
  • Assists in biochemistry development including protein conjugation and purification.
  • Requests or acquires equipment or supplies necessary for various projects
  • Travels to field sites to train collaborators and customers
  • Collects and records data as need for various projects
  • May set up, calibrate and maintain laboratory and/or field research equipment, as specified by the requirements of various projects
  • May train, lead or guide the work of a junior research assistant
  • May need to prepare materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Requirements:
Role-Specific Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline plus minimum 2 years working in an academic or industry lab; OR
  • Masters degree with related research experience
  • Hands-on work experience with immunoassays (bulk and single-molecule methods) is strongly preferred
  • Hands-on experience with qPCR experimentation is strongly preferred
  • Hands-on experience with protein labeling biochemistry is strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with HPLC and FPLC techniques is preferred
  • Proficiency in a variety of other molecular biology techniques is preferred

Field Application Scientist

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Business Development, the Field Application Scientist will be responsible for the success of Spear’s customers by supporting their training, providing technical support, and generating application / work-flow data and protocols to help customers see the value in the product. This role is a commercial and outward facing role and will participate in driving sales and supporting existing customers. The Field Application Scientist will be expected to develop relationships with key customers and KOLs and generate data and application notes that can be used in the sales process. The Field Application Scientist will be expected to be an expert on the product and how customers are applying said product.

Responsibilities:

  • Support and enable the sales process by presenting to target accounts, evaluating opportunities, and driving them to close
  • Demonstrate the product to customers and educate them on workflow requirements.

Scientist/Sr. Scientist

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a Scientist/Senior Scientist-level candidate with a track record of research excellence and diagnostic product development experience to join our R&D team. Expertise and knowledge of recent scientific and technological advances in molecular diagnostics and immunodiagnostics are required. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual who leads from the bench and enjoys having broad responsibilities and opportunities. Activities may be focused on individual projects or assignments as a senior technical member of a project team, which may include project leadership duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops, plans, conducts and records results from complex experiments within a specific product or technology area.
  • Contributes ideas for new product development
  • Performs laboratory experiments following defined protocols and company procedures, or innovates to develop new protocols for existing or new technologies.
  • Reports on the status of assigned projects through the preparation of detailed reports and presentations that summarize experiment results.
  • Identifies problems, investigates alternatives, and recommends possible courses of action.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the diagnostics industry, including technological developments that may assist in delivering new processes, improved products, or entirely new products
  • Prepares reports for submission to regulatory agencies such as the FDA.
  • Prepares and/or contributes to articles for publication. Communicates and presents scientific/technical results at internal and external meetings.
  • Supervises and serves as a mentor to technical staff
  • Works closely with other teams to collaboratively resolve issues

Requirements:
Role-Specific Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or related field
  • Extensive experience in PCR-based nucleic acid detection techniques (e.g., qRT-PCR, digital PCR).
  • Experience with protein labeling and/or conjugation biochemistry is a plus.
  • Experience in working with digital immunoassays platforms is a plus.
  • Experience in diagnostic development for protein markers is a plus.
  • Experience in automated liquid handling is a plus.
  • Prior experience in working with various human biofluids is a plus.
  • Experience in developing, implementing and supporting clinical assays in a regulated environment (such as with FDA-QSR, CLIA, ISO regulations) strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of the diagnostic industry is required; some knowledge of liquid biopsies is a plus.
  • For the senior scientist level, 3+ years of professional experience with molecular biology techniques in an industry setting.
